Number Seven, a residential house located in Isfahan, Iran, showcases the timeless allure of semicircular arches. Both the exterior and interior of the house feature these graceful arches, creating a sense of relaxation and tranquility. To save time and money, Koupaei decided to leave some walls and ceilings exposed, allowing the natural brick texture to shine through. Recycled materials were also incorporated into the design, with the living room ceiling covered in untreated recycled wood, adding warmth and character to the space.
What sets Number Seven apart is not just its stunning aesthetics, but also the unique approach taken during its realization. With only 100 days to design and rebuild, the project required on-site sketching and execution, foregoing the traditional preparation of renders and documents. This fast-paced process allowed the design team to adapt and make decisions in real-time, resulting in a truly organic and dynamic design.
Embracing sustainability and resourcefulness, Number Seven showcases the beauty of recycled materials. By leaving walls and ceilings unfinished, the design highlights the raw beauty of exposed brick, creating a harmonious blend of old and new. The use of recycled wood in the living room ceiling not only adds visual interest but also reduces the environmental impact of the project.
With an area of 310 square meters, Number Seven features a one-and-a-half main level, providing ample space for comfortable living. The project, which started in November 2018 and was completed in March 2019, faced its fair share of challenges. Strict rules from the urban planning department and municipality posed obstacles, requiring careful navigation and adherence to regulations.
Koupaei's meticulous research and experimentation with traditional methods of executing semicircular arches resulted in a design that seamlessly blends modernity with historical context. The dialogue between space, color, and culture is evident throughout the house, creating a captivating atmosphere. The arches, in particular, serve as the focal point, drawing the eye and evoking a sense of wonder.
Number Seven has garnered well-deserved recognition and accolades. In 2021, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes the practicality, innovation, and professional execution of the design. Number Seven's integration of industry best practices and technical excellence contributes to a better world, making it a true standout in the field of design.
Number Seven is a testament to Kamran Koupaei's vision and expertise in creating spaces that inspire and captivate. Through the use of arches, recycled materials, and a keen eye for detail, Koupaei has transformed a tired house into a modern masterpiece that breathes new life into its surroundings.
